A brief history of Baba
Farid Ji
Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar, a Muslim Sufi, is
generally recognized as the first major poet of the Punjabi language and is
considered one of the pivotal saints of the Punjab region. Revered by Muslims
and Hindus, he is also considered one of the fifteen Sikh Bhagats within
Sikhism and his selected works form part of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh

Baba Farid Aagman
Purb Celebrations
In the beginning the people used to organise a function on a
small scale to commemorate the visit of Baba Farid. It was during 1986 that
North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala organised Baba Farid Mela in a befitting
manner involving the District Administration, Social and Cultural Organisations
of this area. Since then the Aagman Purb of Baba Sheikh Farid is being
regularly organised by the District Administration and ‘The Faridkot District
Cultural Society’ with co-operation of different Govt./Non-Govt. Organisations.
Earlier the duration of the Aagman Purb which was restricted to three days, has
now been extended to 9 days with the addition of Sports and Cultural events.
More ambitious activities have been included to provide it an international
touch and make it a mega event.
The Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has accorded the
status of a National Festival to the Aagman Purb in the year, 1998.
