It’s a thing of pride for a Bollywood actor to play the role
of a Panjabi. Period.
There are many reasons. First and foremost, Panjabiness of a
movie guarantees popularity. Provided the script has muscle, Panjabi tadka is
all you need to make it a hit on box office. Panjabi tracks are known to bring
immense success to a film’s music.
Apart from that people from all parts of India (and world) are
curious about Panjabis and Panjabiyat. There’s something unique about it. Panjabis
are often characterised by flamboyance, bigness of heart, boldness and bravery.
But sometimes, a few cheap movie makers show Panjabis in bad light. Anyway,
they never get away with it.
It’s not easy to play a Panjabi character. Panjabiness
reflects in everything that you do, and not just your dialogues. It’s a way of
life that you have to imbibe before you can do justice to your role.
Here’s an advice to anyone trying to play a Panjabi role.
Come to Panjab. Eat Panjabi, sleep Panjabi, talk Panjabi, walk Panjabi, see Panjabi,
listen Panjabi, speak Panjabi, drink Panjabi, dream Panjabi, wear Panjabi,
behave Panjabi... and then maybe in a few months you will be able to do justice
to your role.
