We are not a music shop, and yet we keep select music albums at our stores. It's music that strikes a positive cord with its listeners, gives hope and attempts to make its listener a better human being in some regard.
Music possesses the power to heal people and show them light, provided they are the right notes. Dya Singh's music is one such example. A few weeks ago we had the privilege to have him at our store. It was an otherworldly experience of Gurbani kirtan and discussions for all who attended.
Dya Singh's latest album Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (Message of Hope) is a collection of seven magical shabads. Put it on, and you are transported into a state of trance from which you do not want to return. It soothes your senses. The texture of Dya Singh voice, the shabads, the music... everything orchestrated gives rise to something extraordinary.
Before every shabad, Dya Singh shares a few lines of wisdom. For example, he begins with, "Naam... the constant awareness of the magic of life, and the universe. and loving grateful adoration of its creator. The source of all reality. By whatever name, naam you wish to refer to that source. Naam is my sanctuary. Naam is the balm for all pain, sorrow, suffering and anguish." And then it's like entering into an abode of realization and relief.
