Yesterday, Blogh Singh, an independent product reviewer wrote an article about us. Feels good when someone praises you with an open heart.
It was a hot Sunday morning. I would have stayed home if it wasn't for the invitation from 1469. For the reopening ceremony of their store. So, amidst all the hotness, Janpath saw a refreshing new change, as 1469 Original breathed new life into the market by reopening their second store.
The ceremony, an informal one at that, was a cozy affair consisting of the founders of 1469 Original, friends and families, and a bunch of overzealous 1469 fans like myself. I was a little late so I missed the religious proceedings. I did get the Karah Prashaad though. After that, there was free icy cold Lassi. Then I came to know about the offer. They were giving away free 1469 shopping bags with every purchase. Somehow I love the sound of the word free. It lights up immense hope in my life.
There are many reasons why I love this 'Panjabi by nature' brand known as 1469 Original. First and foremost being the aura. Walking into a 1469 store is like walking into a crafts museum. Everything deserves to be looked at carefully and appreciated for what it is. Unlike many of my other favorite apparel and accessories brands (names withheld) the merchandise display at 1469 is not meant to confuse you, or trick you into buying something you would regret later. It's all very unpretentious and pressure-free. I like a store that doesn't confuse you with their retail design trickery. 1469 is a rare example in that regard.
Secondly, the products are total value for money. As a college going youth, I believed that while it was okay to spend a fortune on buying a pair of jeans, shelling out more than 400-500 on a t-shirt was a complete no no. Although that belief has changed now, I still look forward to value for money. Recently, I picked up a few t-shirts from 1469's upper price band. And do they justify the tag? With all the detail, design, color and material, they are more than worth it.
Thirdly - and most importantly - being a 'Panjabi at heart' myself, it makes me feel genuinely proud to buy something from a brand which is doing so much for Panjabi language, heritage and culture.
Leaving you with a few photographs I took at the store.
