Lost Games of Panjab - Buntay

Bunta (plural Buntay) is a small spherical toy made of glass. Buntay vary in size and are used for a variety of games, also called Buntay. They are often collected. Sometimes as nostalgic tokens from the childhood, and sometimes for their aesthetic value.

Each street in Panjab used to have a Bunta Star in the good old days. These guys used to walk the streets with their heads held high. Even though they were usually low marks scorers. These Baunta Stars had the highest number of Bunta collections in large glass containers. Sometimes there was a close competition and Bunta games between these players used to attract most number of audiences.

Like many other games of Panjab, Bunta games are now a distance memory from the past. And like everything else, this colorful game also needs to be restored, remembered, played and cherished. Long live Buntay! Chakk de phatte!
