Wake up call

Tragedy struck when everybody was going about their business as usual. A cloud burst somewhere. Then a road broke and there was mayhem. The horror we saw on the news channels, sitting in our air-conditioned living rooms, was nothing compared to the horror people present in the middle of the calamity witnessed, their whole families sliding into the mouth of death. It’s unfortunate without doubt. But then, we know the drill. News channels will hold heated argument sessions, ridiculing guests with their research, politicians will blame other politicians, some of them will resign, rescue operations will save a small percentage of the affected, many families would be left scarred forever, and then what? We will wait for another catastrophe to happen in some other part of the world, once again. We will continue treating the eco-system as one common dustbin and that’s how it will react again.

Although we are used to turning a deaf ear to every eco-advice, here’s a list, again, if you care.

Do not use plastic bags. We don’t. Car pool. It saves fuel and reduces traffic. Turn off the electrical devices when not in use. Save water. Dispose plastic waste sensibly. Do not throw your empty soft drink bottles out of your car. It’s plain illiterate. Plant a tree. Plant one more. It never hurts. And if you believe in the higher power, help others. Spread happiness not hatred. Always be truthful. Cleanse your heart, and then follow it. And then, if we do it right, maybe, one fine day nature will get back to us once again. With a happy surprise this time.
